Well to be honest you can start as a video game tester with little or no
experience however, there are some requirements. The most important
requirement is that you love and know video games. For example, I would
have to know how to play video games very well in order to "pass" the
learning curve on any game.
Another skill that is very important to have especially when testing video
games. You have to know how to analyze while you are testing so that you
can make your report as lengthy as possible with problems. A great way to
build on this skill is to play video games and write down notes on what
could be better and what problems you see.
A skill that I feel to be the most important is loving what you do, yes
this is a skill. If you get distracted or lose interest fast you can
easily lose your game testing job which you want to avoid at all times.
Since you'll be playing these games for several hours and report on them
you have to keep interest the whole time in order to perform your job in a
well efficient manner.
You can see from these two examples that you don't actually have to know a
lot to start, people have the misconception that you have to know
programming languages in order to become a tester but you are just testing
the games not coding them.
